Benefits of attending the Construction Project Control Session

The foundation:

Our experience tells us to begin teaching construction project management from a logical perspective. Just what are the goals of every Project / Construction Manager? We identified the ten top goals then developed the workshops to teach how those goals can be realized.

The problem:

Many Project Managers approach the project with good intentions for building it within time, budget, and quality constraints while fostering a good relationship with the Owner. Those same PMs are likely to come into the project having no system in place to accomplish these and other goals of every Project Manager. The fast pace and inherent problems common to most projects literally overwhelm all the good intentions. It becomes a race to the finish for survival. Small problems get overlooked and evolve into large ones. Relationships between the Architectural /Engineering firm and the General Contractor and between the General Contractor and subcontractors become strained or completely destroyed. The natural adversarial nature of this industry is amplified by misunderstandings, stonewalling, one-upmanship, laziness, sloppiness, and a "lone Ranger" syndrome. The project gets built, the budget gets spent plus some, the Owner feels like it cost too much, the Contractor feels like the Owner took advantage of their good will efforts, and Subcontractors feel like all the problems were solved at their expense. - On it goes . . . and all the players take this experience into the next project with a "survival of the fittest" mentality or at very least an "I'll get you this time" attitude.

The solution:

Participants of this program will learn the most important elements of effective project management from a real world perspective. After attending these workshops, participants will be able to develop strategies to avoid the inherent adversarial relationships common within the industry. They will be able to set up the required systems that ensure on-time and under budget completion including schedules, budgets, cost codes and cost tracking methods. Special emphasis is given to developing and understanding the logic for a realistic schedule and how to update it fairly, including all the players in the process. Those who complete this course will be able to set up and manage an effective system for project documentation. Participants will sharpen their personal skills of team building, problem solving, decision making, organization, communication, and leadership all along the way. The unique feature of the program is that all concepts are taught against the backdrop of a construction project. Every principle is presented in a way that enables the workshop attendee to relate it directly to a construction project.

Using the skills learned in this course, participants will gain the confidence to build and lead a project team through the entire project life cycle
